Why This Bride Chose a Nontraditional Option for Her Bridesmaid Dresses
This Pittsburgh bride wanted members of her bridal party to be comfortable and dance the night away at her New Year’s Eve wedding.
Comfort conquers all was the approach bride Brittany Pent took when planning her “Great Gatsby”-themed New Year’s Eve wedding.
Married to Michael Rohm on Dec. 31, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shadyside, Brittany was joined at the altar by bridesmaids decked out in matching black jumpsuits and their finest fur shawls.
“I just wanted to do something a little different. I wanted my girls to be able to be comfortable, but also [wear] something that’s just really chic,” says Brittany.
The strapless, deep V-neck jumpsuits were purchased online from Lulus, a retail store based out of California. With the exception of hemming, the bridesmaid’s outfits required no extreme alterations. Brittany custom-ordered the fur shawls from the designer Alexbridal on Etsy as a thank you gift.
“In Pittsburgh, you never know with the weather,” Brittany says. “I wanted to be able to give them something that would still go with the look but keep them warm.”
Brittany shares that many of the dresses and presents she received as a bridesmaid have gone unused, so she wanted to be sure to give her bridal party an outfit that was chic, classic and could be worn again.
As a professional dancer and former member of Abby Lee Dance Company, Brittany wanted the freedom to comfortably move during the reception, so once at Veltre’s Wedding & Event Center in Plum, Brittany joined her bridal party and changed into a jumpsuit of her own.
“I knew that we’d be breaking it down and having a good time,” she says. “I wanted to go back to the chic look … but also with it being New Year’s Eve like it was a big ol’ party, I wanted everyone to just be comfortable and have fun.”
Brittany found her jumpsuit at a David’s Bridal while choreographing in San Jose. Similar to her bridesmaids’ jumpsuits, it was sleeveless with the same deep V-neck. However, unlike her bridal party, Brittany’s jumpsuit was bedazzled from the waist up and was covered in little embroidered flowers.
“They had so many great jumpsuit options,” she says. “I didn’t expect it and it was also super reasonable.”
Brittany shares that she wishes she had thought of a way to distinguish her two sisters, who served as matrons of honor, from the bridesmaids, but overall is beyond happy with the final result.
“I didn’t hate them all being the same, I think it just made a really cohesive look as far as like, the guys were all in the same tux and the girls were all in the same jumpsuit. So, it just kind of made it all come together,” she says.
