Over at Pittsburgh International Airport, an ambitious project is underway — construction of a $1.5 billion airport terminal that will be smaller — not bigger — than the current one. At just 700,000 square feet, the new terminal will be less than half the size of the current facility, much of which has not been used since Pittsburgh lost its major USAirways connection hub in 2004.

Essentially, when the new terminal opens in early 2025, it will be the right size to meet the needs of the region’s future.

Pittsburgh Magazine also is making changes to right-size its publishing schedule to better adapt to changing times.

We are combining a few monthly Pittsburgh Magazines and adding new features, expanding coverage in key areas and planning some exciting events for later this year.

With travel going bonkers after the pandemic, we’re adding more coverage of weekend getaways and day trips — both in print and online. We’re also increasing the frequency of Virginia Montanez’s popular “Dahn Memory Lane” column that explores Pittsburgh’s quirky history.

There will be more features on restaurants, chef profiles and dining trends by our prolific Food Editor Kristy Graver.

We’re also introducing a regular short profile of a newsmaker in our Gateway section. For our January/February magazine, we spotlight Caitlyn Mendicino, a corps dancer for Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre who also is known as the “dancing beekeeper.”

You’ll see several design changes to enhance our presentation, and we’ll be including a note in some stories about additional online content.

Look for both Home and Weddings coverage within the pages of our January/February magazine. Our special Best of Design HOME magazine for April — in which an independent panel of esteemed professionals in the design and architecture industry selects winners of our annual design contest — will be better than ever.

And stay tuned: Back by popular demand will be our Best of the ’Burgh party, in which we celebrate the winners of our Readers’ Poll and Staff Picks showcased in the July Pittsburgh Magazine. We’ll also be adding even more categories to our Readers’ Poll, which already includes more than 110 types of destinations, personalities and services.

And soon we’ll be announcing a very special event for the public — something that is sure to delight everyone’s taste buds — and more.
