Pittsburgh Magazine Wins First Place in Annual Robert L. Vann Media Awards
Contributor Joe Pinchot won in the category of ‘Profile/News Feature’ for his story on WAMO’s 75th anniversary.
“A Night of Excellence” was celebrated at the Robert L. Vann Media Awards by the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation on Thursday night, and Pittsburgh Magazine contributor Joe Pinchot won first place for his story, “WAMO Celebrates 75 years.”
The story, which ran in our August 2023 issue, won in the “Profile/News Feature” category.
The PBMF is celebrating its 51st year of advocating for fair representation of the African American community in the news, and the awards dinner was the 35th such celebration.
Associate Editor Lauren Davidson was nominated in the category of History/Culture/Art/Entertainment for “The Music Comes Home,” a story promoting the world premiere of “Billy Strayhorn: Something to Live For,” at the Pittsburgh Public Theater in our September 2023 issue, and contributor Ervin Dyer was nominated in the category of Business/Consumer/Technology for “The Mod Squad,” a story about Black Tech Nation, a trio of diverse innovators in Pittsburgh who launched a $50 million venture fund to empower Black and inclusive start-ups, in our January 2023 issue.
