Founded as a sheet metal company by Harold McKamish in 1975, McKamish Inc. has grown into a full-service mechanical and plumbing construction company that has helped build some of Pittsburgh’s most recognizable buildings, among them UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, PPG Paints Arena and The Tower at PNC Plaza.

McKamish’s son, David, eventually took over the company, where he remains CEO today. Helping to lead the next generation of the family-run business is his daughter, Naley McKamish.

As the company’s director of marketing and business development, Naley McKamish manages, coordinates and participates in the development of all marketing and business development strategies for the organization, including requests for proposals, presentations, social media output and growth strategies.

“I hope to drive growth within McKamish in our current markets and to explore new ones that fit within our business development strategy,” she says. “My view has shifted more from the day-to-day marketing tasks to a more global view.”

Recognized as one of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s 50 Finest in 2023, Naley McKamish says her career highlights include securing contracts for projects such as The Assembly in Bloomfield and the UPMC Presbyterian Tower in Oakland, but one of her favorite aspects of her job is taking part in its philanthropic efforts.

“McKamish does a number of philanthropic initiatives throughout the year that I facilitate, such as the Walk for Children’s event, volunteering at organizations such as the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and the Ronald McDonald House of Pittsburgh and in-house fundraisers for our end-of-year charitable giving,” she says.

Working in a male-dominated field, Naley McKamish says her advice for her fellow women in construction is to be confident in what they do, while not being intimidated to get answers on the things they don’t know by asking questions.

“I’ve received countless amazing pieces of advice from the people I work for, mentors and other businesswomen who may not even be in the construction industry,” she says. “But I think the best advice that I ever received is to be passionate about everything you do in life and in work, but never take work too personal.”
