As shareholder in Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney’s health care section and a co-leader of the Healthcare Industry Group, Michelle Garvey Brennfleck is making her mark in a top U.S. law firm that boasts more than 450 attorneys across 16 offices and that serves a wide range of clients in the energy, finance, health care and life science industries.
She also is co-chair for the Buchanan Network of Women (Buchanan N.O.W.), the company’s affinity group for colleagues who identify as women.
“I aim to work as an advocate for my clients,” she says. “Whether I’m advising them on a strategic transaction, counseling on the implementation of a telehealth platform or presenting to a client’s board of directors, my clients know they have a dedicated and trusted advisor who will work diligently and efficiently to help them reach their business goals,” she says. “I’m most proud that I help clients impact the communities they serve, improving patient care and health outcomes.”
Brennfleck also works with a number of nonprofit organizations — including as a board and executive committee member of Baptist Senior Family and as a member of the American Health Law Association — that make a tangible impact on their communities.
“Working with these organizations is a day-to-day highlight because I am able to apply my counseling and advocacy skills to support the mission and values of these organizations — whether focused on access to quality health care or on innovation and economic development,” she says.
One of her career highlights was helping a large health system transaction that resulted in the combination of two prominent academic medical centers. At the time, she was an associate responsible for drafting the initial definitive agreement and supervised a large team of attorneys handling the diligence process.
“Receiving that opportunity early on in my career has helped me to understand the value of stretching outside of my comfort zone and providing others with opportunities to do the same,” she says.
Recognized by her peers in The Best Lawyers in America® in the Healthcare Law category, Brennfleck is also proud to be a member of her company’s award-winning Healthcare section, which was recently recognized as one of the largest healthcare law firms in the country by Modern Healthcare and is consistently ranked Tier 1 in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Law Firms and is ranked Band 1 in the Chambers USA guide for Pennsylvania.
