Storehouse Neutral 
Over the spring, Storehouse Neutral owner Erin Smrekar moved her business from the co-retail Lawrenceville Market House along Butler Street to a larger location near 53rd Street in Upper Lawrenceville. Owned by Erin Smrekar, Storehouse Neutral in Lawrenceville sells home decor, apparel and jewelry handcrafted by local makers. Smrekar — who started Storehouse Neutral as an at-home business during the pandemic — says connecting customers with small businesses is an essential part of the store’s mission to highlight versatile and unique products.

Von Walter & Funk
Known for its bougie balloon arrangements, the funkadelic lifestyle shop owned by Shawn Aversa and Jamie McAdams in Lawrenceville offers up a plethora of vibrant home goods, including barware, ornaments and neon lights.

Contemporary Craft
For the art lover on your holiday list, head to Contemporary Craft. Offering innovative exhibits, as well as artist-led workshops and community programs, the art center — housed in a former manufacturing facility in Upper Lawrenceville — features a retail shop selling handcrafted objects made by emerging and established artists from across the nation. Proceeds from the sales help to support working artists, exhibitions and education programs offered by Contemporary Craft.

PGH Candle

MJ Eclectic
Formerly known as Shop Blakley Jean, MJ Eclection is a handmade goods and vintage shop located within the Lawrenceville Market House along Butler Street. An artist herself, owner Maddie Rigatti specializes in handmade jewelry sold at the shop, which also hosts a variety of courses and classes.

Wildcard
Since 2009, Wildcard in Lawrenceville has been delighting customers with its variety of whimsical cards, clothing, original art prints and gifts for kids and babies (Lil Pierogi onesie, anyone?). Many of the items celebrate what it means to be a Pittsburgher, such as yinzer-rific T-shirts by Commonwealth Press (among them the “Pittsburgh Vs. All Yinz” T-shirts) or a tote bag featuring a complicated map of the city’s neighborhoods. There’s also, of course, a plethora of goods emblazoned with Pittsburgh icon Fred Rogers.

Songbird Artistry
Retail is a family affair at Songbird Artistry. Owned by Debbie Jacknin, the cozy, three-room shop offers handmade jewelry, screen-printed apparel, fandom goodies and vintage treasures from more than 40 local artisans. One of Jacknin’s daughters, Jennifer Orefice, creates customizable resin-work jewelry sold in the shop, while her other daughter, Jacklyn Orefice, is in charge of finding the shop’s vintage clothing. Songbird Artistry also hosts art workshops and events throughout the year.

Kards Unlimited
Established in 1968, the Shadyside stalwart is about as far from a cookie-cutter card chainstore as you can get. The eclectic shop is jam packed with books, teas, jewelry, games, mugs, apparel and, as the name suggests, lots and lots of fun cards for every occasion.

Hot Haute Hot
There’s something special to marvel over in every corner of Hot Haute Hot in the Strip District. Opened in 1999, the shop is known for its mix of furniture, home decor, jewelry, textiles, lighting and vintage goods. If you’re looking to brighten up your home for the holidays (or give a cool gift to a decor-loving relative), be sure to check out Hot Haute Hot’s collection of colorful Kantha throws and one-of-a-kind vintage rugs.

Una Biologicals
Founded by Jessica Graves in 2008, Una Biologicals in Lawrenceville makes its own line of lotions, salves, lip balms and other beauty and self-care products (hint: these all make good teacher gifts). Since moving to her current digs in 2021, Graves has started offering artisanal soaps and expanded her inventory of crystals. Also worth noting: In addition to its organic ingredients, all Una Biologicals products are wrapped in recyclable or compostable packaging.

Contemporary Concepts
From babies to brides, Contemporary Concepts has been making gift registry wishes come true for more than 40 years. The family-run business sells trinkets, accessories and plateware from a number of name-brand sources, including Jay Strongwater and MacKenzie-Childs. The store also carries Pittsburgh-based Riverside Design Group’s Plates with Purpose. For each plate design sold, 15% of the proceeds go to the nonprofit that the different plate supports, including the Oncology Nursing Society, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity.
