Pittsburgh Is the Best City in America for Football Fans
We didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, but we did make it to the top of WalletHub’s list of the best football cities for fans.
This Sunday’s Super Bowl pits the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers, but Pittsburgh is still very much in the mix; it’s the best city overall for football fans, a new survey shows.
Pittsburgh ranks No. 1 overall for the best football city for fans out of the more than 240 cities analyzed by personal finance company WalletHub. The Steel City is followed by Dallas and Green Bay, Wisconsin, for overall rank.
Philadelphia holds position 13.
The report includes cities that have at least one professional or college football team. WalletHub analyzed 21 key metrics to find the results, including stadium capacity and fan engagement.
“Deciding the best football cities ultimately comes down to a combination of how successful the cities’ teams are, how easy it is for spectators to enjoy games, and how dedicated the local fanbase is,” said WalletHub analyst Cassandra Happe in a statement.
Pittsburgh, which is tied with the New England Patriots for the most Super Bowl wins at six, also holds the top spot in a different category for best city for professional football fans. At the college level, Pittsburgh comes in at No. 12. Tuscaloosa, Alabama — home to University of Alabama and its famous Crimson Tide football team — is the best city for fans of college football.
The worst city for fans overall? Easton, Massachusetts.
Super Bowl LVIII cities San Francisco and Kansas City, Missouri, both rank in the top 10 best cities for fans overall — positions nine and 10, respectively. Although, when it comes to best-performing NFL teams, Kansas City takes the cake with the top position. San Francisco isn’t far behind. It has the fourth best-performing team.
While Pittsburgh doesn’t make the list for best-performing NFL teams — there are only five slots shown — our neighbor to the east does. Philadelphia comes in at No. 5 for best performance.
