The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Is Expanding Its Hours
The library system is adding more than 90 hours of service per week, making this one of the largest hours expansions in the system’s history.
If you don’t have a library card, now is a good time to get one.
The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is expanding its hours starting March 10, adding 93 hours of service per week across its system, according to a press release. The increase in hours is one of the largest in the library system’s history.
Most library branches will remain open until 8 p.m. at least three nights a week. Five branches will remain open until 8 p.m. four nights a week. Those branches are CLP – Allegheny, CLP – Brookline, CLP – East Liberty, CLP – Main in Oakland and CLP – Squirrel Hill.
Library hours for CLP – Downtown, Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians and the Allegheny County Law Library will stay the same.

“Thanks to increased annual funding from the [Allegheny] Regional Asset District we can provide patrons with even greater access to lots of books, unique programming, dynamic spaces, and services provided by our amazing staff,” says Andrew Medlar, president and director of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, which oversees 20 library locations in the city.
RAD has provided extra funding to libraries, parks, arts, culture, attractions and other facilities since 1994 through a special 1 percent sales tax levied in Allegheny County.
The hours expansion is a result of a strategic planning process that engaged community members for their ideas about the library. To celebrate the new expanded hours, CLP branches will host open houses throughout March.
